WHILE many were busy watching the mega-bout between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. last Sunday, 37 brave souls were preparing for a tough fight of their own—to a 260-kilometer run in the Southern part of Cebu.
The noncompetitive ultra marathon was dubbed the “Masteral Course 2015” and it aimed to give hard-core Cebuano ultra marathoners a chance to run 260 kilometers in their own backyard.
It started last Sunday morning and ended late yesterday afternoon in Minglanilla, south of Cebu.
Bayani Alvarez, the  100-mile ultra marathon champion,  was the first to finish the run with a time of 38 hours, 28 minutes and 30 seconds.
Brian Guillen, an experienced long-distance runner, finished second with a time of 45:47.33 while third place went to multi-titled female ultra marathoner Preciosa Sanchez (46:30.47).
“We want to let them experience this kind of run and also explore the southern part of Cebu,”  Tony Galon, one of the organizers, said.
The running event was co-organized by the Adik ug Dagan University Running Club.
