Charges of frustrated murder were filed in court yesterday against two men who allegedly tried to kill four policemen in Talisay City last January.
The Talisay City Prosecutors’ Office found probable cause to indict Allan Velos and Christian Caballero on accusations of attacking and shooting SPO1 Benjamin Sebelleta, PO3 Ferdinand Pablo, PO3 Rey Bucao, and PO3 Oliver Ortega.
The four policemen responded to a report that armed persons were seen in barangay Tabunok, Talisay City on January 19 last year.
They saw the two accused having a drinking spree with their firearms placed in plain view on a table.
When the policemen approached Velos and Caballero, the two accused allegedly fired shots at them.
A civilian was shot dead during the gunfight.
Velos was arrested by police last Feb. 20 after he was involved in a shooting incident that resulted in the death of German engineer Henry Haffner, 31, and injured an Indian and a French national who were customers of a McDonald’s outlet. He remains behind bars.
Assistant City Prosecutor Benko Luther Macion gave the two accused an opportunity to submit counter-affidavits but they did not.
The case was then elevated to the court.
Bail was recommended at P120,000 for each of the accused.
