Another loss for Jaguars

THE UNIVERSITY of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars continued in their downward spiral as they got spanked by the St. Benilde Blazers, 81-93, in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup yesterday at the Arena in San Juan City.

Though the Jaguars showed their bite briefly in the second period where they gained the lead, 34-32, after trailing by eight at the end of the first canto, USJ-R once again could not solve the puzzle that was the Blazers’ full-court press and ended up trailing, 38-47, at halftime.

With the Blazers not letting up on their fast-paced offense and vicelike defense, the wards of head coach Jun Noel fell behind by as much as 17 points, 65-82, at a little over six minutes left in the game, and eventually suffered their fourth loss in five games. Guard Jonathan Grey scored 14 points in a mere 14 minutes while Travis Jonson added 11 markers for the Blazers who won for the first time in three tries in this competition.

Cesafi Mythical Five member Kevin Villafrance paced the Jaguars with 17 points while Fletcher Galvez and Iron Suano each pitched in 15 markers.
