CEBU’S TRADITIONAL grassroots basketball powerhouses continued in their winning ways in the ongoing M. Lhuillier Summer League 2015 last Tuesday at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu basketball courts along Mango Avenue.
In the under-19 division, the University of San Carlos Basic Education Department grabbed their second win with a 59-46 victory over the University of Southern Philippines A.
Not to be outdone, the USC Warriors equaled their sister team’s mark after they got past USP-F B, 43-39. Ateneo de Cebu 1 also beat USP-F A, 51-46 to even their win-loss mark at 1-1.
In the under-15 class, three teams share the lead after USC South, USP-F and USC all registered wins.
USC South beat Jagobiao, 68-53; USP-F bested Ateneo de Cebu, 44-43 while USC creamed St. Cecilia’s, 72-35. LCC also got their first win with a 62-39 victory over Abellana National School.
In the under-12 division, Ateneo de Cebu and Monterey remained ahead of the field with similar 2-0 marks. Ateneo de Cebu edged out USC, 36-33 while Monterey crushed Bacay Elementary School, 45-14.
The M. Lhuillier Summer League is one of two summer tournaments that the CYBL is running with the goal of providing pre-season exposure for its SBP, Passerelle and Juniors teams and keeping the players busy and productive this summer.
The CYBL VISMIN Goodwill games that will feature teams from Cagayan de Oro, Bacolod, Iloilo, Bohol, and Leyte will follow after this competition.
