German dead after dive in Kalanggaman island

Police are investigating the circumstances behind the death of a 54-year-old German after she dived into the seawaters of Kalanggaman islet, Palompon, Leyte, Saturday morning.

Bettina Kohl Dumke was scuba diving with her 54-year-old husband Karl-Erich in the seawaters of the islet with their diving guide Rickneil Monteclar,25 when she was spotted being uneasy when they surfaced from a 16-minute dive.

Police said Bettina was already feeling uneasy in taking off her diving apparatuses and apologized for staying for a few minutes underwater when she collapsed on the banca.

Erich and Monteclar rushed Dumke back to Maya Wharf in Daanbantayan town to the nearest hospital but she did failed to make it.  Dr. Feli Ybañez of the Daanbantayan District Hospital couldn’t determine the cause of death.

The equipment used by the victim is now in police custody while an autopsy will be done on her remains./Correspondent Apple Mae Ta-as
