FORMER age group aces of Cebu City and the rest of the province will relive old animosities when they clash against each other and versus new bloods in the sport when the 2nd San Remegio Mayor Mariano Martinez Men’s Doubles Open tennis championships blasts off today in San Remegio, north Cebu.
Among those who have already confirmed their participation in the three-day event, which is being held as part of the town’s upcoming annual fiesta celebration in honor of St. Isidore the Laborer next week, are Francis Edward Parangan of the San Sebastian College-Recoletos Stags in the National Collegiate Athletic Associaiotn (NCAA) and his younger brother Ed Adrian, who plays for the University of Perpetual Help Altas, also in the NCAA.
The Parangan brothers, who hails from Balamban, southwest Cebu, will be facing tough rivals in the tournament as they are scheduled to meet the tandems of former Cebu City age group star Christian “Babaw” Tiongko, who will be paired with University of San Carlos-BED’s present junior ace, Jan Godfrey Seno.
The elder Parangan, Francis Edward, helped the Stags finish fourth place in the recent 90th season of the NCAA, while his younger brother Ed Adrian helped the Altas to a third place finish in the same season.
Aside from the tennis tournament, the town will also host the San Remegio Mountainbike Challenge 2015 tomorrow.
A total of seven categories will be featured in the one-day race, which has a total distance of 30 kilometers.
These are the Elite/Open, Golden Boys (45 years old and above), Veterans (36-45), Masters (26-35), Juniors/Seniors (18-25), Ladies Open and the Locals Only categories.
