Aussie, 61, nabbed for human trafficking

A 61-year-old Australian was arrested on Wednesday for his alleged involvement in human trafficking in Cebu.

Michael Refalo was arrested in San Francisco, Camotes Island based on an arrest warrant issued by Bogo City RTC Branch 61 Judge Antonio Marigomen for two counts of violation of RA 9208 or Anti-trafficking in Persons Act of 2003.

No bail was recommended.

Senior Insp. Cesar Misola, chief of San Francisco Police, said police conducted a surveillance operation after  getting the warrant and the photo of the foreigner.

They  confirmed that Refalo was in barangay Concepcion 7 a.m. on Wednesday.

Refalo did not resist when police approached him inside an Internet café.

He  was staying in a house of a friend in Poro town,  in Camotes Island.

The Australian will be brought today to the Capitol in Cebu city  where he will  be presented to Gov. Hilario Davide III and Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale before he is brought to the Bogo city court.
