DENR cites violations in Cordova ro-ro project

Cordova town can be held liable for  its roll-on-roll-off port terminal built in 2010.

The regional office of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources -7 (DENR-7) said  the municipality violated terms of its Enviornmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) based on  an investigation was made last April 21.

The DENR 7 set a  technical conference  on May 28 to discuss the lapses with Cordova Mayor Adelino Sitoy.

“I still don’t have any idea about that,” Mayor Sitoy told Cebu Daily News last night.

The port is used for boat trips ferrying people from Cordova to Getafe, Bohol province and vice versa.

Eddie Llamedo, DENR-7 information officer, said based on their evaluation report, there were two violations in section 9 and 10 of the ECC.

One refers to required permits like  an Engineering Geology and Geohazard Assessment Report, a certificate of water availability, a foreshore lease agreement, a sanitation permit and others from the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO).

Another condition requires monitoring of the project by an environmental unit (EU) or its equivalent and submission of reports semi-annually to the DENR. A P50,000 fine will be  slapped for each violation.
