Moalboal women weave mats for livelihood

Thirty farmer beneficiaries from Moalboal town in southwest Cebu attended a training on mat weaving and product development in barangay Tomonoy last April 14-17.
The Cebu Provincial Agrarian Reform Office, together with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Cebu, conducted the training for the members of the Tomonoy Women’s Association, Kababaihan sa Bugho Association, and Balabagon Women’s Association in Moalboal.
Municipal agrarian reform program officer Liza Toroy said the training aims to help women members augment their income with mat weaving.
The training would also benefit other agrarian reform beneficiaries organizations in Moalboal, such as the Tomonoy Farmers’ Association and Balabagon Farmers’ Association in the agrarian reform communities of barangays Tomonoy, Bugho and Balabagon.
Rosalinda Marturillas of Balaonung Nagkahiusang Igsoon Alang sa Kalamboan in barangay Balao, Barili was the resource person.
Marturillas usually holds mat-weaving workshops in the agrarian reform communities in Cebu.
