Veco, USJ-R ink student immersion deal

The Visayan Electric Co. (Veco) recently signed an agreement with the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) to support the university’s academe-industry linkage program.

Veco will  admit  two students from the top 10 percent of the fourth year electrical engineering class for the immersion. The students will be exposed to Veco’s systems and network operations, particularly to the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.

“This partnership will serve as an encouragement to our students. We thank Veco, on behalf of our president, our faculty and our engineering department for inviting us to be partners in this new enterprise. We pray that this will grow into a stronger partnership that will benefit our students for a long time,” said Fr. Emilio Larlar, USJ-R vice president for administration.

For his part, Sebastian Lacson, Veco chief operating officer, said “one thing I am very proud of in Veco is that we manage to engender a very young and dynamic set of team leaders who look for ways to strengthen our company’s engineering group.”

“For an electrical engineering student, there is probably no better place for learning  than in Veco. I am happy to say that this will be a stimulating and worthwhile exposure for the students who will be chosen,” Lacson said.

“This is indeed an example of a symbiotic relationship between an industry and academe,” he added./ PR
