Two graduates of the University of San Carlos (USC) ranked among the top 7 successful examinees of the May 2015 chemical engineering licensure examinations.
Aljon Mayol Alivio, 22, placed second with a rating of 83 percent while Jastle Jab Rodrigo ranked sixth with a rating of 80.6 percent.
Alivio, in an interview via Facebook chat, said a classmate told him about the results.
A Department of Science and Technology (DOST) scholar in college, Alivio graduated cum Laude last March.
“Yes, I was aiming to be in the top 10 but I believe everybody wants to top the exam,” he said.
Alivio was among 12 USC graduates who took the licensure examination. Eleven passed. USC had an overall passing percentage of 91.67 percent.
Ramelito Agapay, chairman of the USC Chemical Engineering Department, said it has been two years since their graduates placed in the top ten.
“It’s in our curriculum to meet the outcome based education program,” Agapay told Cebu Daily News.
Alivio, the youngest of three siblings, said he did not originally set out to be a chemical engineer but “It is my goal to excel in whatever I decide to do,” he told CDN.
“Facing difficulty is one of my challenges. Discipline is another,” he said.
“Study. Persevere. Pray. Know your learning style. Develop your study habits. If you feel like giving up, rest if you must, but never quit,” he added.
A total of 239 out of 405 examinees nationwide passed the licensure examination, the Professional Regulation Commission announced.
