IT was not too late for him to make his parents proud.
Shaun Anthony Go, who ranks second with an average of 91.29 percent in the recent Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensure examination, said that once in his college life he was out of focus.
The 20-year-old topnotcher from the University of San Carlos (USC) said that he also cut classes.
“I realized that I have to work harder when I got a grade in one subject that was below the cutoff. It made my parents disappointed,” he told reporters.
Because of this, he persevered to study harder and even graduated magna cum laude.
Go admitted that he aimed to be the number one in the licensure examination to make his parents even more proud.
He enrolled for an in-house review in USC. He also self-re viewed and to relax, sometimes watched Disney movies on Youtube.
“It is not yet too late. Basta magtuon lang (Just study). What’s important is the discipline. You need to understand and don’t rely on memorization,” he added.
Go, who is from barangay Duljo, Cebu City, plans to pursue law.
While in high school at the Philippine Christian Gospel School, he wanted to take up civil engineering.
But he changed his mind and decided to enroll in BS Accountancy.\
While it was not his first choice, he learned to eventually enjoy the program.
EXCEL TOGETHER
Aside from Go, there are four other Carolinians who made it to the top ten during the CPA licensure exam.
Jaecelle Margrett Dy ranks third with an average of 90.86, Jamaica Marjadas ranks fourth with 90 percent average while Odessa Marie Allera and Rieland Cuevas both rank tenth with 88.43 percent average.
Dy graduated summa cum laude last March.
During review, the five of them helped each other in any way they could.
“There was no competition. We wanted to excel together,” Marjadas said.
The five topnotchers plan to work in the same accounting firm.
Marjadas said that they already signed a contract to work before graduation.
Like Go, Marjadas also plans to enroll in law school.
