The Barangay Ginebra Kings squandered a 20-point lead but recovered in time to beat the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, 93-81, last Friday in the finale of a two-game overseas joust of the 40th PBA Governors’ Cup at the Al Shabab Club in Dubai, UAE.

Import Orlando Johnson fired 25 points, while three locals also scored in double figures for Ginebra, which pocketed its second win in five games.

Making a triumphant return from injury was Japeth Aguilar, who finished with 15 points. Marck Caguioa scattered 21 points, while LA Tenorio had 20 markers.

Caguioa scored 16 of his total output in the first period, powering Ginebra to a 28-14 lead.

The Kings appeared headed for a blowout win after padding the lead to as many as 20 points, 39-19, in the second period.

The Elasto Painters, who were playing their second game in two nights, staged a major fightback and stole the upper hand in the third, 59-56.

The Kings regrouped with Tenorio and Aguilar keying a huge fourth-quarter run to salvage the win.

Wendell McKines paced the Elasto Painters with 35 points and 14 rebounds.

Paul Lee was the lone Rain or Shine local to score in twin digits with 10 as the Elasto Painters to get a good follow-up of its 119-112 win over the GlobalPort Batang Pier last Thursday.

Rain or Shine dropped to the bottom of the standings along with the Blackwater Elite and NLEX Road Warriors at 1-3 (win-loss).
