Faigao Memorial Annual Playwright’s Workshop set on May 29-June 14

The 2nd Cornelio Faigao Memorial Annual Playwright’s Workshop in Drama and Performance  will be held on May 29-June 14 in Cebu City. Established in 2014 by the daughter of the late Cornelio Faigao, Linda Faigao-Hall, the workshop is intended to add theater arts to the fiction and poetry fellowships already offered by the Cornelio Faigao Memorial Annual Writer’s Workshop which is now on its 30th year.

The CFMAPW in Drama and Performance is primarily a developmental playwright’s program for Cebuano-identified theater artists who are seriously interested in playwriting in English or Cebuano. The workshop is designed to give playwrights a plethora of resources that include writing original short plays, training actors to perform in them and training directors to direct them. The program then culminates in the plays’ public presentations of bare-bones productions.

Each of the workshops will be run by master teachers chosen by the Executive Director Jose Rodrigo “Rudy” U. Aviles. This year’s playwriting workshop will be held at the Institute of Religion and
Culture, Cebu Hessed Seminar House, Guadalupe, Cebu City. It will be run by visiting New York City playwright Linda Faigao-Hall.

The actor’s workshop will be launched for the first time this year and will be run by New York City professional theater artist Ms. Banaue Miclat-Janssen,  an actor, singer, director and professor at the University of the Philippines Diliman’s Department of Speech Communication and Theatre Arts. It will be held at University of Cebu Alicia Gotianuy AVR  from June 5 to 7. A director’s workshop will be launched in 2016.

The CFMAPW is also supported by TerraNOVA Collective, a premier theatre production company in New York City. For more information, send queries to drama.performance.workshop@gmail.com.
