Thirty-six employees of the Visayan Electric Co. (Veco) and eight dependents volunteered their time in this year’s Brigada Eskwela, an annual undertaking to spruce up public schools in time for the opening of classes on June 1.
Veco’s Brigada Eskwela beneficiary this year is the Budla-an Integrated School in Cebu City’s mountain barangay of Budlaan with a student population of 700 in the elementary and high school.
The employees cleaned the school’s surroundings as well as repaired, repainted and rewired the old classrooms.
“We are very grateful that we were chosen for this year’s Brigada Eskwela Project of Veco because we usually almost don’t get benefits and services since our place is very far from the city,” said school principal Melissa Borbon.
Eric Ching, community relations manager, said Veco is prioritizing schools in the mountain barangays. It has allotted P20 million for rewiring, repainting, infrastructure, brigada eskwela and a library bus that would be launched in barangay Mabolo, Cebu City in June.
