Yamaha introduces Leaning Multi-Wheel technology with launch of Tricity
Yamaha Motors Philippines Inc. (YMPH) launched last May 8 to 10 at the SM City Cebu parking area a unique three-wheeled scooter called the Tricity.
During the grand three-day event, the Cebuano motorcycle community got a glimpse of the newest member of Yamaha’s scooter lineup that features the latest innovation of the Japanese motorcycle brand called the Leaning Multi-Wheel (LMW) technology.
Unlike the conventional two-wheeled scooter, the Tricity has three wheels—two in the front and one in the rear. According to Yamaha officials, this kind of set up offers more comfort, mobility and maneuverability on all kinds of terrain.
This is because the two front wheels are linked in a parallel position that is inter-connected to each other. Each front wheel has its own independent suspension system that makes blancing easier.
The Tricity is bigger than its famous sibling the Yamaha Mio with a width of 735 millimeters and a length of 1,095 mm, which makes it a bit difficult to squeeze in Cebu City’s traffic jams. But it is more stable and comfortable to drive because of its unique set up and suspension system, even it is also heavier than the Mio, which weights 87 kilograms. The Tricity weighs 152 kg.
Its engine is a 125 cc powerplant mated to a continuously variable transmission perfect for Cebu City’s streets. Stopping the Tricity won’t also be a problem as each wheel has its own disk brake system.
The three-day event was attended by Yamaha Motors executives headed by YMPH sales and marketing director Kaoru Ogura, service section manager Tomoyoshi Inoue, marketing section manager Jude Camus and branch head and sales manager Carlo Monterola.
The Japan manufactured three-wheeled scooter is available at all Yamaha Motors 3S shops nationwide with a price tag of P146,000.
“The technology of LMW allows the driver to experience a new riding position and a unique feeling because of the Tricity’s dynamic movements,” said Monterola.
The event was also attended by celebrities Daniel Matsunaga, Erich Gonzales and Gerald Anderson, who tested the Tricity in a track during the last day of the launch.
