CEBU HOSTS again the annual World Milk Day Family Run of Alaska Milk Corp. this Sunday at the SM City Cebu car park.
The event will be held simultaneously in other key cities in the country. These are Metro Manila, Baguio City and Davao City. In total, the event will gather around 7,500 runners.
Last year, Cebu set the record of having the most participants among the four host cities after drawing 400 to join the zumba marathon.
This year, organizers added a non-competitive 3-kilometer fun run.
Yam Maramba of Alaska Milk Corp. said they already gathered 462 participants for this Sunday’s fun run that will traverse parts of the North Reclamation Area in Cebu City.
“Cebu had the most number of participants last year. We were surprised that a lot of Cebuanos joined the zumba event signifying that Cebuanos are really into fitness,” Maramba said in a press conference yesterday at the Golden Cowrie Restaurant Salinas Drive, Lahug branch.
“Now that we’ve added the running event, Cebu again set a record for the most number of runners.”
Still, Maramba said she is expecting to attract more than the allotted 500 slots.
“We are expecting more or less 600 runners,” she said.
The highlight of the running event is the simultaneous milk toast of participants from all host cities.
“The main goal of this fun run is to raise the awareness of the importance of drinking milk regularly, especially for the children,” Maramba said.
The fun run is also a charity event. When one registers for the event, a 1.8-kilogram can of Alaska powdered milk will be given to the Children’s Hour foundation.
Registration fee is pegged at P300 inclusive of the fun run shirt and free breakfast at the venue. Registration can be done at the lower ground floor of SM City Cebu until today.
