Cordova town faces penalty for dumping limestone in private property

The Cordova municipal government will be penalized for conducting illegal reclamation for their proposed Cordova slaughter house project located in barangay Ibabao without securing the Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC).

Engr. William Cuñado, regional director of the Environmental and Management Bureau (EMB-7) said their investigation last April 14 confirmed that there was no ECC issued to the town for the reclamation project.

He said they received a complaint from the heirs of Delfin Miranda, the present lessees of the fish pond seeking for assistance to stop the ongoing reclamation and dumping of limestone materials on their premises last March 25.

Dande Miranda, one of the heirs of Delfin, said 1,000 square meter area located within the fish pond lease area was dumped with excavated materials by Virlo Construction Development Corp. since March.

He said they were surprised why limestone materials were being filled in the area without their permission.

He said there were no verbal or written communication coming from the municipal government informing them that they will be dumping limestone materials in the area.

During the technical conference yesterday at the EMB-7 office, Cordova Mayor Adelino Sitoy has signed the commitment that he will pay the P50,000 administrative fine and will comply the ECC.

He said they dumped the limestone materials in the fish pond in order to save expenses in dumping the excavated materials./Correspondent Melissa Q. Cabahug
