3 races make for hectic Sunday

THREE running events will simultaneously unfold today in Cebu’s major thoroughfares.

The Builders Run 2, Color Manila Run-Cebu Leg 2 and the Alaska World Milk Day Family Run will have a gun start of 5 a.m. with thousands of Cebuanos expected to race.

The Builders Run 2 of the Cebu Home and Builders Center will start off at the Parkmall in Mandaue City with around 1,800 runners answering the starting gun according to veteran race director Joel Baring of Sports and Fitness Enthusiasts (SAFE). The bulk of the runners, said Baring, will race in the shorter 3-kilometer and 5k distances while the rest will run the 10k and 16k.

Most of the runners are employees of Cebu Home and Builders Center and its business partners.

The fund-raising run will benefit Gawad Kalinga’s housing project in Misamis Oriental.

Meanwhile, the Color Manila Run-Cebu Leg 2 caters to a different group of runners who are mostly teenagers and party goers who want to taste the run’s unique colored powder concept.

Race director Joel Juarez of Coco Running says around 2,000 runners will vie in the non-competitive color run that will blast off at the South Road Properties (SRP). The race offers three distances – 3k, 5k and 10k.

On the other hand, around 600 runners mostly kids and their families will vie in the World Milk Day Run of the Alaska Milk Corporation in SM City Cebu.

The event, which will only feature a 3k distance, will simultaneously kick off in Manila, Davao and Baguio with a combined total of 2,700 runners. The race aims to promote the importance of drinking milk.

The three races will start at 5 in the morning.
