A world title remains elusive for Milan “El Metodico” Melindo after the ALA Gym stalwart bowed to Mexico’s Javier Mendoza via a sixth round technical decision earlier today in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico.
Referee Gerard White stopped the contest at the 2:39 mark of the sixth round after Mendoza sustained a deep cut in the left eye caused by an accidental headbutt.
With Mendoza deemed unfit to continue to fight, the match was decided by the judges’ scorecards that saw the Mexican boxer winning 59-52, 60-52 and 60-52.
Mendoza thus defended his International Boxing Federation (IBF) world junior flyweight crown.
Mendoza pocketed his 24th win with 19 Kos, two losses and a draw.
Melindo dropped to 32W-2L, 12 Kos. His two losses were both world title fights.
Melindo first faltered in winning a world title belt in 2013 after he succumbed to a unanimous decision loss to another Mexican fighter Juan Francisco Estrada for the WBO and WBA Flyweight belt in Macau, China.
