Nissan Philippines, Inc. (NPI) continues its search for the first-ever Filipino race car driver who’ll take it to a podium finish at the Silverstone race track in the United Kingdom as it holds the  Nissan GT Academy  Live Event in the Queen City of the South from June 11 to 17.
The online virtual racing event will be held at the SM City Cebu.
The GT Academy is a competition that unites the worlds of virtual and real-life racing to make the dreams of aspiring race drivers a reality.
Presently, there are 20 players who have led the charge in the leaderboards since the program was launched last March 25 in Manila. But they are advised not to rest on their laurels as NPI is scheduled to hold succeeding Live Events this month, including one in Cebu, as it expands its search for potential talents in different parts of the country.
“Ever since we launched the program, we at Nissan are overwhelmed  to see how the Filipino GT players rose to our call, and answered the challenge of making good time on the virtual track in their quest to become real race car driver,” Antonio Zara, NPI President and Managing Director, said. “This can be seen in the number of players who’ve signed up in all of our Live Events, with nearly 20,000 trials made in the 13 Live events we’ve held to date.”
After the qualifying stage,  qualifiers will then be invited to participate in the National Final slated next month. In the National Finals, the qualifiers are expected to hurdle a series of challenges  that will tax their driving skills, mental and physical agility as well as tactical ability in order to qualify for the Race Camp Week in Silverstone, UK in August.  The final winner of each region will then undergo an intensive Driver Development Program designed by Nissan and will be given an opportunity to participate in the Dubai 24 Hours race in January 2016.
Aside from the Cebu leg, other Live Events will be held at SM BF Paranaque and Robinsons Bacolod on June 5 to 7, Centrio Mall in Cagayan de Oro City on June 5 to 6, SM Masinag on June 12 to 14, SM Sta. Rosa on June 18 to 24, SM Manila on June 19 to 21, Glorietta 2 Activity Center on June 26 to 28 and at the High Street in Bonifacio Global City on June 27.
