After a month-long vacation in the US, former Fuente police precinct chief Insp. Wildemar Tiu aired his side on the fatal mauling of 11-year-old street child Chastity Mirabiles to the media.

In a press conference, Tiu said he hopes the investigation conducted by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will clear his name and the reputation of his men.

“I hope there will be a result (of the investigation) to clear us from this allegation. It is really damaging my reputation,” Tiu said.
Tiu and his men at the Fuente police precinct were accused of abusing the street children by shaving their heads after picking them up from the streets as part of the Libud Suroy program.

Tiu’s men were accused of mauling Mirabiles who eventually died from her injuries.

A street child who was picked up with Mirabiles identified the policeman who mauled them but told investigators it was not Tiu.

The NBI said Tiu is not off the hook based on the principle of command responsibility.(CDN/Marc Cosep, Cebu Technological University Intern)
