SAYING there’s no more challenge left for him in the age group tournaments, Jan Godfrey Seno of the University of San Carlos-BED has decided to instead join higher tournaments such as the men’s open and national open competitions.
Jan Godfrey’s father, Noel Seno, a prominent businessman of Bogo City, told Cebu Daily News that he and his son have decided to leave age group tournaments in favor of the tougher ones as part of his son’s preparations for the pro ranks.
According to the elder Seno, age group tournaments like the Cebuana Lhuillier Age Group and the Palawan Pawnshop Age Group tilts though helpful to emerging netters, offer limited chances for Jan Godfrey to fully develop his craft given the scarcity of players of Jan Godfrey’s skills.
This was the reason why Jan Godfrey, according to his dad, decided to skip several age group tournaments like the 20th JRG Gullas Cup last April 24 and recent editions of the Cebuana and Palawan events.
Seno’s latest conquests came in the recent 2015 Palawan Pawnshop-Palawan Express Pera Padala Regional Age Group Visayas Leg 4 tennis tournament where the 15-year-old pride of Bogo City, Cebu plucked titles in the premier 18-Under and 16-Under Boys divisions.
After that, Seno bagged the championship title in the San Remegio Men’s Open Doubles competition with partnership with former age group ace, Christian “Babaw” Tiongko, before snaring the title in the Medellin Men’s Open tournament.
In his latest tournament, the 3rd Mayor Celestino Martinez Men’s Open in Bogo City, Seno lost in the final to Janjie Soquino.
