FOR THE FIRST time in more than a decade, Cebu City will serve as the hosts for the National Duathlon Championships (NDC) as this year’s race will take place at the South Road Properties on Sept. 12 and 13.
The hosting was made possible through the efforts of the Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP) headed by Eric Reyes and local organizing committee headed by Oscar “Boying” Rodriguez and Millette Chiongbian with the support from the Cebu City government.
The race is regularly held in Subic, Zambales before TRAP decided to take it to Cebu.
“With the vibrant multi-sport scene here in Cebu, it was a nice fit to finally bring NDC to this part of the country,”said Rodriguez.
“The multisport scene in the province and city is vibrant and strong. TRAP also fulfills our sports development mandate by providing us this race. Further, we can use the event for talent identification as the outstanding performers will be invited to the Philippine duathlon team.”
The race encourages cyclists and runners to test their limits to conquer the 10-kilometer run, 40k bike and 5k run along the SRP.
Rodriguez, Chiongbian and Reyes spearheaded the launching of the race yesterday at the Casino Español along with Philippine triathlon team’s junior elite triathletes Justin and Yuan Chiongbian along with fellow national team members Kim Kilgroe and Christian Yance.
Aside from the standard distance, there will also be sprint and mini sprint distances. On Sept. 12, there will be a super tri kids competition that will start and finish beside Lantaw restaurant at the SRP.
Registration can be done at RUNNR Ayala, Rudy Project in SM City Cebu, Lantaw SRP and Bikology at the Banilad Town Center.
