WITH THE collegiate basketball season nearing on the horizon, more and more Manila squads are turning to Cebu to hone their skills.
The latest is the NCAA’s San Sebastian Stags, who will be playing against several Cebu teams starting today at the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) gym in Basak, Pardo.
First up on Stags’ plate is their sister squad, the USJ-R Jaguars.
The two meet at 12 noon today with USJ-R aiming to build on its recent stint in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup, where it finished with just one win against seven losses.
The Stags are hoping to gain back the form that made them the champions of the NCAA during the 2009-2010 season.
Hope springs eternal for the Stags with a roster led by high-scoring guard Jaymar Perez, bullstrong forward Bradwyn Guinto along with Jon Ortueste and Ivan Camasura.
Tomorrow, the Stags battle the University of San Carlos Warriors at 1 p.m. On Saturday, the Stags open the day with a match versus the Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildcats at 7 a.m. followed by a tiff against the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Panthers at 2 p.m.
They close out their Cebu sojourn with a game against the University of Cebu on Sunday at 9 a.m.
