Traffic moderate as classes start

Traffic remained moderate during the opening of classes of most private schools and universities in Cebu City Monday morning.

Joy Tumulak, Cebu City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) operations chief, said there were only a few streets where traffic flow was slow.

In Nasipit, Talamban, Citom personnel pulled out several culverts and heavy equipment along the side of the road to ease traffic congestion.

A minor accident involving a motorcycle and private car also caused some congestion along the Banilad-Talamban road.

A truck also conked out along S. Osmena road corner T. Padilla extension and Citom sent a truck to pick up the vehicle. Tumulak said he personally drove around the city from south, central to north from 6am to 8am.

“I drove the car myself and I wasn’t locked up in traffic,” he said.

But at 10 a.m., there was a problem in the communication sytem of the traffic lights causing a gridlock at the crossing of M.J. Cuenco Avenue and A. Soriano Maxilom.

Citom aide Bryan Rollo said the communication line failed to respond due to a communications line problem by the service provider. Traffic personnel had to regulate traffic in the area.

Mayor Michael Rama met with Citom personnel, traffic police and the Quick Response Team at 5 am today in anticipation of today’s opening of classes of private schools. Citom will assess the traffic again at the end of classes this afternoon./ with Grace Pecaoco, Multi-media assistant
