Safari resort in Carmen completed in 2 years
Cebuano pawnshop tycoon Michel J. Lhuillier is eyeing to develop properties in Sogod and Borbon towns in northern Cebu into a resort.
“Now I’m looking for the best partners for this project. There is no specific timeline yet but we really would like to invest in this business,” he said.
Lhuillier said at least P200 million would be needed to develop the properties. He said he owns about 2,000 hectares in the two towns.
He said the project would boost the tourism industry and complement a 100-hectare safari that he is also developing in another property in Carmen town, also in the north.
“This will be an addition to Cebu’s tourism product and will entice more travelers to come here,” he said during the signing of a partnership between M. Lhuillier Financial Services, Inc. and Air You Go Travels Philippines. (See related story) Lhuillier said the safari resort would be completed in two years.
They have been transporting animals into the Carmen property. The safari will feature lions, giraffes, camels and tigers, among others.
The project, once completed, is expected to create at least 1,000 jobs in Cebu, according to Lhuillier. Lhuillier is president of M. Lhuillier Financial Services, Inc., touted as the largest non-bank financial services company in the country with over 1,800 branches.
