The SM Green Film Festival (GFF) project aims to make Filipinos aware of the plight of the earth today.
Starting this month, SM will open its cinemas to students for free screenings of environmental films and documentaries.
The festival will be held every third Tuesday of the month, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in 57 cinemas of the SM Supermalls and Waltermart.
The project aims to educate 1 million grade school and high school students.
June is celebrated as Environment Month.
SM Supermalls prefer films in local languages so that schoolchildren can better understand the issues portrayed.
GMA 7 has agreed to provide the initial materials, two station-produced documentaries entitled “Ground Zero” and “Pagbangon” which run for 50 minutes each.
Ground Zero features natural disasters here and abroad, while Pagbangon is an award-winning documentary on the effect of supertyphoon Yolanda on survivors.
The Climate Change Commission has also contributed a 5-minute info video on the Top 15 Ways to LEDS (Low Emission Development Strategies).
