Sultan Kudarat’s Ruffa Sorongon logged her 10th victory in local footraces after bagging the 15-kilometer title of the 117th Independence Day Solidarity Run yesterday at the North Reclamation Area in Cebu City.
The 23-year-old Sorongon, who recently dominated the 21-kilometer race of the A-Plus All Weather Paint Fun Run 2, crossed the finish line at the Fort San Pedro in one hour and 48 seconds to emerge champion.
Keisha Mae Delechos settled for second place with a time of 1:05.55 while Jona dela Torre rounded off the top three with a time of 1:07.58.
Jobert Carolino, meanwhile, returned from more than a year of absence from local races and won the men’s title with a time of 48 minutes and 28 seconds. He outran Kenyan Isaac Simat, who finished second with a clocking of 48:45. Ramil Neri placed third with a time of 48:55.
In the 10k race, Cherry Andrin and Prince Joey Lee shared top honors.
Andrin finished in 40:49 to win the women’s title while Lee crossed the finish line in 30:32 to bag the men’s crown.
Robert Daang came in second to Lee with a time of 33:10 while Daryl Manos placed third (33:25).
Melody Perez was Andrin’s closest pursuer with a time of 41:10 while Geneda Arcuino clocked 42:19 to place third.
John Cliff Debolusan (17:02) and Geniecel Saballa (21:24) emerged winners in the 5k race.
Glenn Arellano finished second in the men’s race with a time of 17:24 while Ronilo Gabilan clocked 18:09 for third place.
Mary Joy Loberanis claimed second place in the distaff side with a time of 21:35 while Lovely Grace Peña settled for third (21:55).
Around 300 runners answered the starting gun yesterday in the running event organized by the Cebu City Sports Commission for the benefit of the new Cebu City Medical Center.
