SAN Roque Barangay Captain Lidiore “Boy” Miranda died after suffering a heart attack on Thursday night. .
He was 53.
His wife, Maritess, said he was taken to Chong Hua Hospital where he expired at 10 p.m.
Earlier that day, Miranda delivered an emotional speech in a boxing event on Arellano Street which was part of the activities lined up for their fiesta today.
He later complained of difficulty breathing and went up to his office in the barangay hall, said Sammy Ortega, barangay administrative assistant.
Ortega said the barangay captain was emotional during his speech where he lamented that some quarters were accusing him of corruption and questioning his leadership.
In his office, Miranda had a massage and told his wife that he was not feeling well.
Maritess went to his office. A few minutes later, one of his staff approached him to say they will be distributing the prizes for the boxing event winners.
Miranda put on his socks and stood up, then suddenly collapsed.
Maritess said this was the third heart attack for the barangay chief. The second occured in 2011 when he was playing basketball with Mayor Michael Rama. He spent days in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Maritess said her husband was strict but was a good provider.
Mayor Michael Rama described Miranda as a passionate person who was focused on his job.
“He wanted things done and had a time frame,” Rama said
Ortega, on the other hand, described Miranda as a workaholic who wanted everything to be neat and in order.
In 2007, Miranda was elected as barangay councilor of San Roque.
He ran as barangay captain in 2010 but lost. He ran again in 2013 and won this time around.
Barangay Councilor Cyrus Lindog, the first councilor, will replace Miranda.
Miranda’s remains are in St. Peter Funeral Homes on Imus St.
