MANDAUE City Hall set aside P13 million as counterpart fund for the restoration of the Mandaue City side of the Butuanon River in cooperation with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
Mandaue City Legal Officer Giovanni Tianero, who chairs the Butuanon River Watershed Management Board, said they are working with government agencies and the University of San Carlos to help rehabilitate the river.
Tianero said an easement zone measuring nearly a kilometer from Camboga-ong Bridge up to the Butuanon Bridge near Pacific Mall will serve as the pilot area for a planned beautification project.
He said this will include riprapping, fencing, soil protection, landscaping and even a bicycle lane. Tianero said the river rehabilitation project will start before the election ban next year.
He said the board will invite private companies in the city to help beautify certain portions of the river’s easement zone.
