THE controversial police official who is facing an administrative case for allegedly maltreating street children that he rounded up is asking the hearing officer, Chief Insp. Jose Gesto, to inhibit from the case.
Chief Insp. Wildemar Tiu, through his legal counsel Leilani Villarino, is also asking for a 15-day extension of the deadline for the submission of his reply to the case.
He filed the two motions before the Discipline Law and Order Section (DILOS) of Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 last Friday.Gesto said the DILOS office already informed him about the two motions.
He said the reason Tiu’s lawyer asked him to inhibit was to avoid bias and prejudice.
Gesto revealed that Villarino acted as legal counsel for a man who filed a complaint of neglect of duty against him when he was still chief of Talamban police.
She feared that Gesto might be biased against her because of the case.
But Gesto told CDN it could not be used as grounds for him to inhibit the case as Villarino was handling another client before.
Senior Supt. Marciano Batiancela Jr., officer-in-charge of Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), said Tiu has started reporting to the Regional Operations and Plans Division of (PRO) 7 yesterday.
Tiu is facing an administrative case for allegedly shaving off the head of two girls who were rounded up during their Libod Suroy operation.
Tiu was also tagged in the death of 11-year-old Chastity Mirabiles who died after she was allegedly rounded up and mauled.
She died due to traumatic blunt injuries, according to the regional office of theNational Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
