Today is a special non-working holiday for Lapu-Lapu City which celebrates its 54th Charter Day.
There will be no classes in all levels of both public and private schools.
Employees of private companies are entitled to additional pay if they are required to work today.
A program will be held at the City Hall grounds after a holy mass at 6:30 a.m. and flag-raising ceremony at 7:30 a.m.
One of the highlights is a “boodle fight” or communal meal shared by about 5,000 people.
Speeches will be given by Lapu-Lapu City’s Lone Congressional District Rep. Aileen Radaza, Mayor Paz Radaza and Vice Mayor Marcial Ycong.
There will be a presentation from the Department of Education choir, a song from the Montessori School Students (Sto. Niño de Mactan), an intermission number from Babag National High School and dance presentations from Marigondon National High School, Pajo National High School Performing Arts, Kalawisan Elementary School, Sta. Rosa Elementary School and Pajo Elementary School.
City government employees are required to attend the activity and wear their orange shirt uniform.
Bleachers, tents, tables, and chairs decorated with the colors of the Philippine flags were already in place yesterday for the celebration.
