CCMC to hire additional 40 nurses for expansion

An additional 40 nurses will be hired by the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) to beef up their 255 nursing staff, the hospital’s management said yesterday.

During the launching of the CCMC Coffee+Press, CCMC’s Chief Nurse Lyrma Soledad said 80 nurses resigned from the hospital to work in other private hospitals in Cebu and abroad.

She said the nurse to patient ratio in the CCMC is 1 is to 10 when the ideal ratio is one nurse for every five patients.

The CCMC moved its main building for the obstetrics and pediatric wards to the old building of the Cebu City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) last year after its old building was severely damaged in the October 15, 2013 earthquake.

CCMC hospital administrator Rey Cris Panugaling said their hiring of 40 nurses is part of the hospital’s preparations to apply for a Level 2 accreditation from the Department of Health (DOH).

Admissions

He said this will allow them to expand their bed-capacity from the current 98 beds to 250 beds. CCMC is currently in Level 1.
Before the earthquake, the CCMC was classified as a Level 3 hospital.

Based on the hospital’s records from January to May this year, they’ve had 1,690 admissions, or less than a thousand admissions from the 2,723 admissions in the same period last year.

Panugaling said they will seek a P300-million budget for next year, or P51 million more than their P249-million budget this year.

He said the amount will cover personnel services, maintenance and other operating expenses.

This is separate from the capital outlay request they made which includes another P300 million for the next phase of the CCMC building project.

About P600 million has been set aside for the first phase.

Panugaling said they will also ask for another P20-million worth of equipment for the hospital.
