Biometrics Data Day pushed

THE Cebu City Council passed a resolution calling on businesses to schedule a “Biometrics Data Day” for all their employees before the October 31 deadline of the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Cebu City Councilor Alvin Dizon, who authored the resolution, said business owners should schedule one whole day for their employees to have their biometrics data taken by the Comelec for next year’s elections.

Republic Act. No. 10367 otherwise known as An Act providing for the Mandatory Biometrics Voter Registration mandates the Comelec to set up a complete and updated list of voters through biometrics technology.

Voters who fail to submit for validation prior before the May 2016 elections will  be deactivated from the voters’ list and shall not be allowed to vote.

The Comelec noted that the usual excuse given by voters for their failure to go to their office is their busy work schedule.

Comelec spokesman James Jimenez has appealed to business owners to provide a “Biometrics Data Day” for their employees.
