The Philippine National Police (PNP) Maritime Unit-7 wants to beef up security for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings in Cebu after receiving unverified terrorism threats.

Chief Insp. Marvin de Paz, PNP Maritime Unit-7 chief said they are asking additional personnel from the regional office in time for the APEC meetings to be held in Cebu in August.

“The unverified threats were taken from social media and we also discussed and disseminated during evaluation and  series of workshop that we conducted,” de Paz told the reporters.

“Our priority is the safety of our stakeholders. We assure the public that those (terrorist acts) can’t get in Cebu,” he added.
