Gov turns over classrooms, covered courts, P15K cash to town execs
FIVE new classrooms and two covered courts were inaugurated yesterday in Samboan town, south Cebu.
Cash assistance of P15,000 was also handed out to 14 barangay captains by Capitol officials led Gov. Hilario Davide III and Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale.
In barangay Basak, Magpale said these were just some of the projects of Davide’s administration that she had to mention because the governor was just silent in the face of accusations of critics that he hasn’t done much in his term.
“Pasayloa nga mo-break ko sa silence kay si gov god inig human god niyag buhat, mahimo rag ang iyang wa nga kamot mahimo rag di makahibaw sa gihimo sa iyang tuo nga kamot.
(I am sorry if I break the silence because after the governor is done distributing his projects, it’s okay with him if his right hand does not know what his left hand has done.)
She said Davide “downloaded” project funds to local governments to be implemented by the mayors.
“Dili ingon nga ang bidding, ang tanang proyekto tua ra tanan sa Kapitolyo,” she said. Iyang ipanghatag sa mga mayor ug ang mga mayor ang nag-implement mao na nga di ra siya motingog. Paninglan, wa kunoy nabuhat ang kapitolyo.
(It doesn’t mean that all projects, public bidding, are all with the Capitol He gave the funds to the mayors who implemented them. That explains why he no longer talks about it. Then he’s asked to explain why the Capitol hasn’t done anything.)
Three classrooms were funded by the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) and two by the Provincial School Board.
Grade 6 student Marvic Rocaberte was one of 280 pupils of Bulangsuran Integrated School who were excited by the change.
“Nalipay kay naa nami’y classroom (I am happy because we now have a classroom),” he said with a smile.
Before that, pupils of grade 5 and 6 held classes on the school stage in barangay Bulangsuran.
Cebu provincial officials also inaugurated a P1.8 million multi-purpose covered court in Bulansuran and a P1.9 million covered court in barangay Basak.
Both courts are funded by the national government through the Department of Public Works and Highways.
The turnover was attended by Rep. Wilfredo Caminero, Provincial Board Members Christopher “Dong” Baricuatro, Alex Binghay, Peter John Calderon, and his brother Samboan Mayor Raymund Joseph Calderon.
Congressman Caminero said 55 multi-purpose covered courts were built in his district using P71 million from his pork barrel or Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF).
In Basak, financial assistance of P15,000 each was handed out to 14 barangays in Samboan. Vice Governor Magpale led the distribution of the P201,000 aid to barangays Basak, Bulangsuran, Bonbon, Calatagan, Cambigon, Canorong, Colase, Dalaikan, Jumangpas, Camburoy, Poblacion, San Sebastian, Suba and Tangbo.
