The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board kicked off its wage consultation in Central Visayas.
Regional Director Exequiel Sarcauga of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE-7) said they will assess the positions of the sectors before they hold a public hearing for wage adjustments.
Regional Director Efren Carreon of the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) said Central Visayas is the third highest contributor to the Philippine economy and ranks fourth in terms of regional share to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).

Regional Director Asteria Caberte of the Department of Trade and Industry said a price freeze on basic commodities was imposed after the provincial government declared a state of calamity in the province.
During the discussion, Phil Export Executive Dir Fred Escalona asked that their sector be exempted from wage increases. Republic Act 6727 mandates RTWPB to review a 12-month old wage order.
Last March 21,2014 Wage Order No. 18 was approved with P13 wage adjustment.
