EXCAVATION works on the road upgrading project along Plaridel St. and A.C. Cortes Avenue in barangay Cambaro, Mandaue City will be suspended starting tomorrow in preparation for the Cobra Ironman 70.3  competition this August.

“We will just flatten the road and clear the route of any debris to avoid accidents happening to the participants during the event,” said Engr. Suzette Nwanaka of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 6th district.

She said they received the order from Regional DPWH Director Ador Canlas since the area will serve as one of the routes for the bicycle leg of the international sports event which starts from Lapu-Lapu City.

Nwanaka said the crews will work on the roadsides of Plaridel St. and portions of A.C. Cortes not included in the route. She added  clearing of the area will be carried out a week before the competition.

Aside from the P50-million road upgrading, a drainage rehabilitation project is also ongoing at Plaridel St. and A.C. Cortes Avenue.

The contractor, PLD Construction, started work in the area last March 27 and they are scheduled to complete the projects on  February 17, 2016.

The projects aggravated traffic in Mandaue City as it affects motorists coming to and from Lapu-Lapu City.
