The Korea Electric Power Corporation (Kepco) labor union will hold a strike ballot this morning at their headquarters in the City of Naga, southern Cebu.
This after the 15-day period ended since they filed a notice of strike on June 4 before the National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB) regional office following the termination of the supervisors association’s president Lowell Sanchez.
NCMB regional director Edmundo Mirasol told Cebu Daily News that majority of the 18 supervisors should agree to hold a strike.
In a strike ballot, union members secretly vote on whether to hold a strike or not.
“If agreed, another seven days strike ban will be implemented before they can hold a strike,” Mirasol added.
Mirasol is still hopeful that the dispute between the union and the management can still be settled. The 6th conciliation meeting was held yesterday at the regional office of NCMB.
Another conciliation meeting is scheduled on June 30. Mirasol said that Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz told him to settle the dispute to attain industrial peace.
The Kepco SPC Power Plant owns and operates a 200-megawatt modern coal-fired power plant in the City of Naga. It supplies power to the Visayas grid, mainly to the electric cooperatives of Cebu, Negros and Bohol.
The labor dispute started when Sanchez was terminated after being accused of creating a union during company time.
