TONY Cabibil and Romy Pialan joined the cast of qualifiers for the December Tournament of Champions 2015 after they lorded over their respective divisions in the Cebu Executives and Professional Chess Association’s (Cepca) Monthly tournament held last June 28 at the Handuraw Pizza in Gorordo.
Cabibil secured a slot for the year-ending grand tournament after he outplayed National Master Arnold Cadiz in the seventh and final round to dominate the premier Group A action.
Pialan, for his part, snared the Group B championship tiara in the tournament sponsored by Marvyne Guardiana after he breezed through his division unscathed to end up with 4.5 points in five rounds.
Last month, Jimmy Ty, Jr. and Jojo Paredes ruled their respective divisions in the May edition.
Ty, the 2014 grand champion of the annual tournament, bagged the Group A title for higher-ranked players. Paredes, on the other hand, finished the tournament with 4.5 points to lord it over Group B.
