THE riding public can expect heavy traffic in Metro Cebu today with tour buses and vehicles bringing participants of the 10th Ambassadors, Consul Generals and Tourism Directors Tour (ACGTD) in parts of Cebu City, Mandaue City and Mactan.
A “Suroy-Suroy sa Sugbu” tour has been readied for nearly 200 of the guests from the US starting today until Thursday this week, said Joy Tumulak, Cebu City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) operations chief.
Cebu is the highlight of the annual nationwide activity.
As their buses and vehicles pass by, traffic may be halted to give way to the convoy.
The guests will arrive at the Mactan Cebu International Airport at 10 a.m. today and will have lunch at the Ayala Center Cebu.
The guests are also expected to tour Profoods International Corp. in Mandaue City, the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) for their dancing inmates, Magellan’s Cross, the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño and the Museo sa Sugbo.
Tumulak said eight coaster vehicles have been assigned to transport the visitors throughout the tour.
Three Citom traffic enforcers will be station at intersections of the route.
The visitors will have dinner at the Museo sa Sugbo hosted by the Cebu City government.
They will stay at the Radisson Blu Hotel and will attend a Cultural and Heritage Tour in Carcar City and the towns of Argao and Sibonga on Wednesday.
The guests will return to Radisson Blu Hotel for a farewell dinner hosted by Western Union.
Those who are part of the basic tour will leave for Manila at noon on Thursday while those staying for one more day will go island hopping in Hilatungan, Nalusuan and Pandanon Island. The rest will then leave at noon on Friday this week.
The event is a joint project of all Philippine Foreign Service Posts in the US, together with the DOT in cooperation with the Cebu provincial government.
