ABOUT P137-million worth of cash assistance will be given to Cebu City’s persons with disabilities (PWDs), senior citizens and barangay officials.
Ester Concha, who heads the city’s Department of Social Welfare Services (DSWS), said P1,000 will be given to each of the over 10,000 registered PWDs of the city today.
They were previously given cash assistance last April 18. The Cebu City government budgeted P10 million for the registered PWDs this year, Concha said.
“The PWDs can claim their cash aid at the barangays they registered in. This will make things easier for them, as they are most likely closer to their barangay halls than to City Hall,” Concha said.
Senior citizens will receive P2,000 each which they can claim from their respective barangay halls tomorrow.
City Treasurer Diwa Cuevas said the Cebu City government allocated P120 million for the seniors’ cash aid.
Cuevas said P7 million had been budgeted for the honoraria of the city’s barangay officials will also be released tomorrow.
Barangay chairpersons will receive P5,000 each while barangay councilors will receive P3,000 each and barangay secretaries and treasurers will get P2,000 each.
Cuevas said they can claim their incentives at the Cebu City Social Hall.
“We have only just finished the payroll for all the beneficiaries, which is why we are only releasing this now,” Cuevas said.
Cuevas said the money will be taken from the city’s regular tax collection contrary to rumors that it will be sourced from the P1.6-billion down payment made by the SM-Ayala consortium for the SRP lots last June 30./UP Cebu Intern Juli Ann M. Sibi
