A father who was on his way to visit his daughter in the hospital died after the trisikad he was driving was hit by a pickup on the national highway in Daanbantayan town, northern Cebu on Saturday morning.
The pickup driver who later surrendered to Daanbantayan police said he fell asleep at the wheel and didn’t notice the trisikad.
Felix Monterde, 47, was with his 7-year-old son heading for Daanbantayan District Hospital to see his daughter, Kim.
A Mazda pickup driven by Carlos Estrera, 30, hit the trisikad and dragged it several meters away.
Monterde was rushed to the Bogo City Hospital but eventually died from severe head injuries. His son was thrown off the trisikad and sustained minor injuries.
