PSL regional tilt in the works

THE PHILIPPINE SuperLiga (PSL) celebrated its second anniversary with a blockbuster as it is in the process of organizing a regional women’s volleyball tournament that will pit the country’s best with club leagues from Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia.

This was revealed by PSL president Ramon Suzara, who said that they are already putting finishing touches on the organization of a prestigious regional tournament, where the Philippines will be clashing with its Southeast Asian rivals in an ultimate battle for volleyball supremacy.

Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) secretary general Shanrit Wongprasert is in the forefront of this endeavor and is set to fly to Manila soon together with club league officials of Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia to sign the agreement and discuss the mechanics of the regional tournament.

Though it has yet to be named, this tournament will be patterned after the mechanics of the ASEAN Basketball League, which the Philippines used to rule.

“As the Philippine SuperLiga reaches its second year, it is only fitting that we increase the level of competition of volleyball in the country. This is an important milestone for Philippine volleyball,” said Suzara in a statement.
