The Visayan Electric Company (Veco) turned over a school rewiring project worth P700,000 to Cabancalan Elementary School in Mandaue City late last month.
Eight school buildings of Cabancalan have been rewired by Veco for free as part of the power company’s social responsibility program.
The work started in April and was finished in May.
“Mao niy usa sa mga problema ani nga eskwelahan kay dugay na kaayong wala ma-check ang wiring ug magsige og awop ang among mga suga (This is one of the problems in this school as the wiring has not been checked for a long time and our lights would always trip off),” said school principal Ma. Divina Flores.
The ceremony was graced by Mayor Jonas Cortes, DepEd Schools Division Superintendent Virginia Zapanta, Casuntingan barangay captain Oscar del Castillo, Cabancalan barangay captain Cynthia Remedio, Veco senior vice president Anton Mari Perdices, chief operating officer Sebastian Lacson, community relations manager Eric Ching, students and teachers.
Mayor Cortes thanked Veco for their support.
“I will always cherish and look forward to a healthy partnership between Mandaue and Veco for the betterment of Mandauehanons,” said Cortes.
Dr. Zapanta also expressed gratitude to the Aboitiz Foundation for helping the public schools. She assured the foundation they would take care of the projects they have received.
