Blazers secure first victory

THE ST. BENILDE Blazers finally broke through for their first win of the season after they beat the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals, 73-66, in the 91st NCAA men’s basketball tournament yesterday at the Arena in San Juan.

After struggling to find their rhythm to start the season, the Blazers finally were able to as Jonathan Grey and Travis Jonson conspired all game long to bring victory to their side.

Grey had 19 points and three sterals while Jonson finished with 18 markers.

But it was a hard-earned win for St. Benilde as EAC kept on charging back and were within five, 55-60, late in the final canto.

But Jonson made a crucial four-point play and Grey canned a transition bucket to push the lead back to 11 with two minutes remaining and virtually place the game in their bag.

EAC remains winless in two outings so far this season.
