Veco extends aid in wake of fallen post

The Visayan Electric Co. (Veco) issued a statement concerning the collapse of a post that resulted in the death of one child and injured another.

“Even if it was not a Veco post, we will extend financial assistance to families.” Jill Verallo, Veco reputation enhancement department head said.

She said they are asking utility companies to practice safety measures in setting up their posts.

Verallo said they don’t own the fallen post in barangay Tinago since their posts have numbers and the fallen post didn’t have any number.

“We sympathize with the families. We feel bad. We’re not saying it is our fault but we’re still willing to help.” Verallo said. She said Veco regularly checks on its posts through their contractors and surveyors.

Concrete posts can withstand winds up to 250 km/h. Posts are buried at 16 percent of their total height to ensure it will not fall. For any concern regarding posts, the public may inform and reach Veco at (032)230-8326.
