THE TRADITIONAL powerhouses maintained their respective places on top after they collected victories over the weekend in the resumption of the competition in the Passerelle division of the Milo-backed BEST Center Tournament over at the Ateneo de Cebu basketball courts along Mango Avenue.
In Group A, the reigning national champion University of the Visayas (UV) survived the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USP-F), 42-35, for its second win in as many games.
John Igot topscored for UV with eight in a hard-earned win that saw the Baby Panthers keep within striking distance all-game long before faltering down the stretch.
Not to be outdone, the Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragons also won their second game in a row after they routed Don Bosco, 81-58, in a game that was played at the latter’s homefloor in Labangon.
Johh Vincent Galarse anchored the offense with 19 while Garnird Leopoldo pitched in 16 of his own.
In Group B, the University of San Carlos (USC) and the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) also improved to 2-0 after the former creamed Southwestern University (SWU), 68-33, behind Justin Atilano’s 12, while the latter blasted the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R), 59-27.
Maynard Uy and Coco Tuadles paced the Magis Eagles’ balanced attack with seven apiece.
