A roll-on/roll-off (roro) vessel encountered engine trouble at midsea about seven nautical miles from the Danao City port area Friday morning.

MV Mika Marie 6 of Jomalia Shipping left the port of Consuelo, Camotes Island at 5:30 a.m and is supposed to arrive at Danao City port area at 8 a.m said Commander Weniel Azcuña, chief of staff of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) for Central Visayas.

“The crew was able to fix the vessel and docked at the port at 9:45 a.m. All passengers were safe,” Azcuña told Cebu Daily News.

The vessel which weighs 235.89 gross tonnage has an authorized passenger capacity of 307 people. During inspection yesterday, 283 passengers were onboard.

As part of PCG’s protocol, the vessel’s skipper, Capt. Hilario Tomas needs to submit a Marine protest to explain the delay.
